Well the story I wrote and commissioned Neil Que: [link] to illustrate, is done. It was a much bigger project than I imagined at first. Neil gave me such excellent value and had completed all the panels before Halloween, However I just wasn't in a place I could sit down and touch up my story and start the roll out till the last few days.
Everyone who's viewed the story and left a message has been most kind. I loved the one where they said it was kinda scary. Someone else asked if they deserved such a fate.
I thought about that quite a bit. On one hoof I am trying to tell a horror story. Something that should make you feel like what's being done isn't right. Though this is a work of fiction. Only in fiction do we get a chance to know the hows and whys to whatever detail an author will allow.
Rarely in life does our sense of justice and right get validated. Someone throws fast food drink cup out of their car. Never results in them driving into a to go bag never to be heard of again. Or their house becomes filled with slushy and a straw is shoved down the chimney of their house.
So here came a story of something doing something that some people would think horrible. A Carousel that refused to die. Refused to give up and by whatever means was able to revitalize itself by consuming what it needed.
The romantics will leave the couple alive and knowing the other is close. Others will consider the pair's fate in different ways.
This story hadn't existed before Oct 14th 2009. It had only been a scene I had commissioned an artist to do in 1993. And for some reason, trying to describe it to Neil Que [link] it fleshed itself out into a story I admittedly was excited about.
Originally I'd envisioned a set of 10 panels to illustrate the story, but 10 became 16, and ultimately 22. The style left a bit dreamy and undefined to an extent so you felt like it could be a dream or nightmare depending on your tastes.
I hope others will share this tale with their friends. I hope to do more in the future but for now. This project is done and I shall sleep, perhaps like the carousel, till next year.
The gallery is here: [link]
Where you will find the story and the illustrations. I would love more comments and feedback if it be worth your time.
